成绩 3/6
Thesis 1/1
优点

The thesis takes a clear position against over-reliance on standardized tests and establishes a line of reasoning that will be developed in the essay.

待改进

The thesis could be more specific about the criteria for evaluation, such as mentioning creativity, collaboration, or socioeconomic factors, to sharpen the argument.

Evidence & Commentary 2/4
优点

The essay provides relevant evidence, such as the SAT's limited scope and the correlation between family income and test scores.;The essay attempts to engage with a counterargument by acknowledging MIT's decision to reinstate test requirements.

待改进

The commentary often stays at a surface level, describing what the test does or what scores show, rather than analyzing why these points undermine the claim of objectivity.;The evidence could be more specific—for example, citing a study or statistic about income and scores would strengthen the argument.;The counterargument is acknowledged but not fully developed; the response could explain why alternative measures like essays and recommendations are more effective.

Sophistication 0/1
优点

The essay shows an awareness of the complexity by conceding that tests have some value.

待改进

The analysis is mostly straightforward and does not explore deeper tensions, such as the trade-offs between objectivity and equity, or the potential biases in alternative measures.;The style is functional but not vivid or persuasive; the essay relies on simple sentence structures and lacks a broader contextual framing.

反馈摘要

This essay presents a clear argument against over-reliance on standardized tests, with a defensible thesis and some relevant evidence. The main areas to work on are developing the analysis beyond surface observations, providing more specific evidence, and refining grammar and vocabulary for clarity. With more detailed commentary and a stronger engagement with counterarguments, the essay could become more persuasive.

Consider the following claim: "Standardized tests remain the most objective and equitable method for evaluating student achievement and determining college readiness. Without them, admissions decisions become more subjective and potentially more susceptible to bias." A growing number of colleges and universities have adopted test-optional or test-free admissions policies, while others argue that standardized tests provide essential data for fair evaluation. Write an essay that argues your position on the role of standardized testing in education. Use appropriate evidence — including facts, examples, and reasoning — to develop your argument. Consider the complexity of the issue by acknowledging and responding to counterarguments.

Standardized tests have been used in the education for a long time. Some people think they are fair and objective, but other people think they are not. In my opinion, standardized tests are not the best way to evaluate the student, and colleges should not depend of them too much. First, standardized tests only measure a small part of the ability of a student. The SAT only test the reading, the writing and the math. It can not show if a student is creative, or if he can work with other people, or if he will keep learning after he graduate. A student who get 1500 may still be a bad researcher. This mean the test is not a complete picture of a person. Second, the test is not really fair. Every year the score report show that the average score of the student from the rich family is much higher than the student from the poor family. The reason is very clear. Rich family can pay much money for the training class for one year or even two year, and their children only need to study. Poor students do not have this chance, and many of them also need to help their family after school. Therefore the test actually show the money of the family. Some people say that without test, the admission will become subjective and the bias will be more serious. Some university like MIT also bring back the test requirement in recent year, and they said the test help them to find the talented student from the poor high school. This is a reasonable worry and I admit the test is not useless. But the university can also read the essay, the recommendation letter and the activity list, and these things tell us many thing about the student too. In conclusion, standardized tests have some value but they should not be the main standard. Colleges should look at the student in a complete way. If we only use the test, we will lose many good student who is talented in other area.
